These Terms and Conditions exist to give every client a clear understanding of how we work, to protect the integrity of our craft, and to ensure a professional and enjoyable experience from consultation to collection. By placing an order or booking an appointment with Edinburgh Tailoring Company, you agree to the following terms.

1. Ordering and Payment

All garments are custom made to order. This means they are exempt from standard consumer return rules. No refunds are offered under any circumstances. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Full payment is required at the point of ordering. Production begins only when funds have been received and cleared. Consultations, fittings, cloth selections or design discussions do not activate the production timeline until payment is complete.

If payment is not made within 14 days of receiving an invoice, the order will be cancelled automatically. No cancellation fees apply. Clients may reorder at any time and the new order will follow the standard process.

The price agreed at the time of ordering is the final price. Website content, social media posts or other marketing materials do not override the agreed order price.

2. Production Timelines and Event Dates

Standard production takes up to eight weeks. This is an estimate and not a guarantee. Timelines depend on client attendance at fittings, cloth availability, and production scheduling.

Express services are available at an additional cost. Express options apply only to production, not to alterations. Express services cannot be used to compensate for client delays. Cloth options for express orders may be limited to the fabrics held in our production facility. All express fees are non refundable.

We will always do our best to meet event dates, but these dates cannot be guaranteed. Delays in attending fittings, changing design details, late communication, cloth supply delays, or any other circumstance outside our control may affect your timeline.

3. Cloth Availability and Mill Delays

Cloth supply and delivery depend on our mill and merchant partners. Delays may occur and are outside our control. If this happens, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you to confirm whether you wish to wait for the cloth or reselect.

If we receive no response within five working days, we reserve the right to select the closest available replacement cloth to keep your order progressing.

Event dates cannot be guaranteed if cloth delays occur. No compensation or refund is offered for delays caused by mills, couriers, customs or suppliers.

4. Fittings and Alterations During Production

The fitting process is designed to refine and perfect your garment. Most clients require one or two fittings. Occasionally a third may be needed. More than this is only carried out at our discretion and may be chargeable.

At each fitting, a digital record will be created and signed by the client. This confirms the work agreed and the stage of progress. A copy will be emailed to the client after each fitting.

If you delay attending a fitting, the overall timeline will extend. We cannot guarantee event dates if fittings are missed, postponed or delayed.

Requests to match another garment, or changes based on opinions from others, are treated as preference based and may be declined or carried out as a chargeable alteration.

Style changes after cloth has been cut may or may not be possible depending on the stage of production. Where possible, charges will apply. If a change is not possible, the garment will proceed as originally agreed.

5. Fit Approval and Post Collection Adjustments

At your final fitting, you will be asked to approve the fit. Approval confirms that the garment meets the agreed style, shape and fit. Once approved, any further changes requested are considered new alteration work and may be chargeable unless a genuine workmanship fault is identified.

Clients must inspect garments at the moment of collection. Once a garment leaves the studio, it is considered accepted. Any issues raised after collection are treated as alteration requests unless related to workmanship.

We keep your pattern active for eight weeks after collection. During this period, small adjustments that arise from normal wear may be carried out free of charge. This does not include changes to style, silhouette, or fit preference. Changes due to body shape, comparison to other garments, external opinions or misuse are chargeable.

6. Quality Guarantee

We offer a one year quality guarantee covering faults in workmanship or materials, including stitching, lining, zips, buttons and cloth defects. This is a quality guarantee. It does not cover wear and tear under any circumstances.

Body changes, incorrect care, heavy wear, accidents, friction, misuse or any damage caused after collection are not covered. We will assess whether an issue qualifies as a guarantee repair. Repairs for issues outside the guarantee can be carried out as a chargeable service.

Dry cleaning voids the guarantee if any damage results. Dry cleaning is undertaken entirely at the client’s risk.

7. Dry Cleaning and Care

We do not recommend dry cleaning unless absolutely necessary. Dry cleaning involves chemicals and heat that can affect colour, shape, structure, canvassing and lining. Edinburgh Tailoring Company accepts no responsibility for any damage caused by dry cleaning.

Care guidance is provided at collection. Clients must ensure that any dry cleaner follows the instructions provided. Any damage resulting from cleaning is entirely the client’s responsibility.

8. Postage, Collection and Shipping

Postage is not included in our service. Clients are responsible for all postage costs when sending garments to us and for return postage if they wish items shipped back. If you want your garments tracked, insured or signed for, please select and pay for the appropriate service.

Studio collection is always free of charge.

Once a parcel leaves our studio, responsibility and liability transfer to the client. We are not liable for loss, delay, customs charges or damage during transit.

9. Storage and Abandonment

Garments must be collected within six months of completion. After six months, the garment is considered abandoned. We will make reasonable attempts to contact you before taking action. After this point, the garment may be donated to a local charity that supports people entering employment.

No refunds, replacements or compensation are provided for uncollected or abandoned garments. Garments left beyond six months are no longer insured or stored under our responsibility.

10. Conduct and Communication

All official communication must be made by email. Messages sent by text, WhatsApp, social media or informal channels are not considered official and may not receive a response. Our telephone number operates primarily as a voicemail inbox. Calls may be responded to by email where messages are left. This is to ensure that written records of conversations are kept.

We expect respectful and professional communication. Abusive, aggressive or unreasonable behaviour, persistent missed appointments, or attempts to apply pressure through social media may result in the relationship being ended at our discretion. Any outstanding balances remain payable.

11. No Shows and Cancellations

No show fees apply to all missed appointments without 48 hours notice.
Studio consultation: £99.
Online consultation: £49.
Fitting appointment: £49.
Home or office visit: £249.

These fees are invoiced directly and remain payable. We do not block future bookings.

12. Intellectual Property

All patterns, templates, measurement records and production notes remain the intellectual property of Edinburgh Tailoring Company. Clients cannot request copies. These records may be retained indefinitely for quality, remake and guarantee purposes.

13. Independent Assessments

If a client raises a concern, the garment must be returned to the studio for assessment. If you cannot attend in person, you may post the garment to us at your own cost.

If a client wishes to seek an independent opinion, we can refer you to a qualified third party. The assessment is carried out at the client’s cost. If the assessor identifies a genuine workmanship fault, we will reimburse the assessment fee.

14. Right to Amend Terms

Edinburgh Tailoring Company reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. The version in force at the date of your order applies to your order.
